“Kira”
“Having been born in a tiny house in the middle of a vast desert, Kira learned early on to appreciate the gift that had been granted her: that of seeing things at a great distance. For there was virtually nothing to see where she lived. There were dunes and cacti, sage shrubs, and the occasional boulder. But the color palette nature had employed here ranged mostly from brown to gray. The ground looked like the surface of the moon, the cacti, thorny and linear. If it had not been for the vivid blue of the sky, and the fluffy white animals, ships, peninsulas, and giants that floated across it, the girl might have sunk into a dull oblivion. But her clairvoyance opened up the entire universe to the girl. She could direct her attention to distant galaxies and watch a supernova explode; she could think about celestial realms and be granted instant entre into their beautiful mysteries; she could ponder the wisdom of an Enlightened Being and immediately find herself in his or her presence. And the clarity with which she saw what was happening exceeded that with which she saw her physical environment. When seeing at a distance, something, some marvelous ingredient, like a secret spice in a fine dish, was added to her experience. She “saw” with her soul, not merely with her eyes. And such seeing, as the wise know, is far more profound.” (from “Palace of Perfect Wisdom”)
