“Only One Goal”
“One had only to observe the residents moving about the Palace to understand the concept that what unites all human beings transcends their apparent differences. A First Nations cleverman, wearing a dried-grass skirt and a hat of feathers and claws, with a bone protruding from the sides of his nose, looked superficially as though he had nothing whatsoever in common with an orange-robed Buddhist elder walking with a cane. But these two just needed to meet, to come eye to eye, for them to immediately and irrevocably understand that they stood on the same profound ground. It makes no difference how one reaches the Absolute. All that matters is that one does reach It. It is of the least concern what one calls the Absolute. All that matters is that one hears Its call and responds by meeting It. There are many paths up the mountain, but the peak is the same for all who complete the ascent. Traditions and backgrounds, systems of parenting and education, are often the determining factors in the route one takes in the climb. But as one ascends, one begins to understand that course is not important. Only the destination matters.” (from “Palace of Perfect Wisdom”)
