“The Magical Book”
“One day, while Orenda was exploring a cave she had discovered on the mountainside near her home, she perceived a soft, diffuse light shining in the far corner. At first, she wondered if it might be some sort of luminescent crystal, but, when she got close, she saw that it was an extraordinary book. The book shone with a golden light; it reminded her of the rising sun as seen through a faint mist in the mountains. The book appeared to be made of semiprecious stones, small gems carefully fitted together to form a stunningly unitary whole. She could not see any spaces between the various stones. They blended one into the other. But their effect! It was like admiring a fusion of the most gorgeous stones on display at the world’s finest jewelry stores. And, right before her eyes, the stones would change position, color, and size. A rich, smooth, vivid-green emerald would resolve itself into a swirl of bluish-green almost the shade of an aquamarine; a deep-blue square of malachite would turn tubular and transform itself into a watery stone the color of fresh violets.” (from “Palace of Perfect Wisdom”)
