“A Great Change”
“The amazing heavenly display was accompanied by a complete outage of all electrical systems on the planet. No one could use their phones, televisions, or radios. People streamed outside to stare with jaws dropped at the vast kinetic paintings being composed right before their eyes on the canvas of the sky. It seemed to them that their attention was being directed upward, to something vast, grand, and beautiful. Neighbors who had never before met came together in wonder. Enemies forgot their differences s they stared up at the wonderful lights. Everything stopped. Sellers stopped hawking their wares. Performers stopped singing and dancing. Meetings ended in mid-sentence. Arguments dropped. Cravings were temporarily forgotten. The world’s attention was one-pointedly focused on something larger than day-to-day concerns. Once the sky lights’ show ended, people slowly returned to their former activities. But they did so pondering. Why had this happened? What did it mean” Was there a message for them in this unheard-of life stoppage?” (from “Palace of Perfect Wisdom”)
