“Magic Book”

“An invisible force pulled Claire toward an immense oak tree. Beneath it, in a sort of natural wrapper of roots, rested a block of wood the size of a large book page. The ‘book’ was filled with all sorts of inscriptions, mantras, formulas, sigils, ciphers, cryptograms, rubrics, and rebuses. The page reminded Claire of illuminated manuscripts she had once seen pictures of. She picked it up and felt a powerful jolt of electric energy as she did so. Touching the book fired up the subtle spiritual nerve ways that ran through her physical body, causing them to glow and spark. The book page was pleasantly warm to the touch and emitted a subtle but delicious scent. It seemed to be made of a substance she had never before seen, a sort of blended material that was half rich, old wood, and half sponge. The quality of the artistic work visible on the page was extraordinary. The designs must have been done by a master of illumination with rare talent. Everything on the page fit together. The designs around the margins appeared to embrace the words and symbols they surrounded. The latter were so spaced as to themselves form pleasing designs.” (from “Palace of Perfect Wisdom”)
