“Making Gemstones”

“He noticed the pebbles the girls still held in their hands. “Look at these gray pebbles. You think that they are quite real just as they are.” He now took a few pebbles from each of the girls and then dropped them back into their hands. But they had been transformed into exquisite gemstones: gorgeous emeralds, sapphires, and diamonds! The girls looked at the gems and then at each other, utterly stunned. “Now you see them in their true beauty as precious objects. That is because Consciousness has been made to shine from within them. But if that Consciousness is hidden…” The girls looked again and saw that the pebbles had returned to their gray, dusty selves. Once again, they were stunned. Mahacharya continued. “No matter how beautiful something in the world appears to be, when it is seen from the perspective of Pure Consciousness, it becomes a thousand times more sublime.” (from “Palace of Perfect Wisdom”)
