“Vale of Flowers”

” On the opposite hillside, the colors were fewer but even brighter. Long, glowing flows of primary yellow, which looked like lava made of butter, spilled down the face of the hill. Occasionally interspersed with these cinquefoils were irregularly shaped growths of the lavender poppies seen on the other side. And, in the farthest visible distance, dark, Parma-violet-colored poppies merged with mates growing up from the bottom of the opposite hill, below the tangerine-hued blooms previously mentioned. The hills seemed to have become gigantic flower vases spilling over their sides charming soft textures and enchanting bright colors. Not an inch of raw soil could be seen. Every spot on the landscape was covered with a cornucopia of blooms.” (from “The Whisper of a Saint”)
