“Greek Sunset”

“The sun was now setting on the rim of the Aegean Sea. The sky showed layered colors of cherry, pale orange, and peppermint. Five clouds, oddly contoured like puzzle pieces fashioned from mist, were painted in hues of flesh and pink and grayish white. A dazzling band of primary yellow lit the far edge of the sea. The full orb of the sun now floated atop the horizon, a gigantic round ball of pure white light. Around the circumference of the star hung a thin sheathe of creamy, soft-gold luminance, and out of this sheathe shot dozens of arrows of similarly colored light. Stretching out from the center of the sun was a perfectly symmetrical bridge of golden light. This bridge over the water reached right up to where they all sat on the beach. To Amante, the sun and bridge formed a wonderful exclamation point. Paz saw them as a bridge leading into a heavenly paradise. The men were simply dazzled by the downright magnificence of the natural spectacle.”
