“A Sea Cave”
Excerpt from “Osi and Isi: A Tale of Twin Flames”: “Isi walked down the beach until she arrived at a triangular opening in the red rock wall against whose base the beach terminated. The battering ram of surf, expiring on the wide sand, spread out underneath this aperture like a thin pane of glass, perfectly smooth and transparent. The traveler walked under the stony arch and back into the sea cave. The sea was ruched with closely-packed, spume-topped waves. The wispy clouds above the water looked exactly as if that spume had been transported into the sky. The window in the rock seemed to Isi like an earthly eye opened upon the waters. She sat in shadow, under the rocky canopy, while the ocean spreading out before her gleamed in bright light. The water looked like polished malachite, and its endlessness opened the girl’s mind to vast possibilities. The foam of the surf, as it encroached on the sand, made her think of a watery spider’s web or one of those gauzy muslin dresses described in Jane Austen novels. The sand took on different shades of tan and brown depending on how lightly or heavily the water had wetted it.”
