“Silent Progress”

“Everything that the friends were picking up on was indeed happening in the outer world. It was a strange phenomenon. The world was used to being triggered into momentary contemplation by a dramatic event presented before their eyes. Here were photos of a gruesome battle; here was an image of a vast celestial star structure; here was a tragic earthquake and its consequent ruins. News would flash; images would fly around the globe; and attention was briefly paid to the phenomenon, with emotions erupting in accordance with its nature. Then a day or a week or a month would pass, and the phenomenon would fade from the collective consciousness of humanity, and it would be as if it had never occurred. But in this case, that of the Palace of Perfect Wisdom, there was no specific news. There weren’t any images or sound bites. No secretly recorded conversations came to the ears of a voyeuristic public. Instead, there was simply a subtle feeling, a faint sense that everything was somehow changing. Not a feeling that something major had taken place, something that would soon be passed over, but an intuition that everything was fundamentally transforming, that life on earth would never be quite the same again.” (from “Palace of Perfect Wisdom”)
