“Vern”
‘Gilberto was passing by the exit of the cave of Realized Beings one night when he caught a glimpse of a familiar white beard out of the corner of his eye. Turning round, he found himself face to face with Vern. They immediately embraced each other. “I can’t believe you’re here, Vern! On second thought, there’s no place I’d more expect you to be,” the boy gushed.
“You’re looking well, young man. Seems like just the other day we were driving down that old highway.”
“You were the first person I met after leaving home, Vern. And you were not only really kind to me, but you also gave me great advice about the importance of love in life.”
Vern draped an arm around Gilberto’s shoulder and pointed up at the sky. “I remember we were looking at these same stars, my boy.”
“And you told me that I had something in here,” Gilberto tapped his heart, “that was worth far more than any beauty that might be seen in the physical world.”
“And look, you’ve gone and found just the right place to live out that love in your heart. What do you folks call this spot?”
“We call it the Palace of Perfect Wisdom.”’ (from “Palace of Perfect Wisdom”)
